Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy

I love a book where the character accepts herself and loves who she truly is.  I love it even more when she doubts herself and finds her way back. When your mom is a pageant queen there are expectations, expectations that Willowdean refuses to accept.  The rift this causes between the teen and her mother seems insurmountable.  But, add in some excellent friends and a bar full of drag queens and things start to change!

I real enjoyed this peek at small-town pageant life.  The Dolly Parton connection was both unexpected and a perfect fit.
