This is Reed Farrel Coleman’s first attempt at a Jesse Stone novel, and I have mixed feelings.
Here’s the background:
Robert B Parker wrote 9 novels in the Jesse Stone series. (Read them in order, starting with Night Passage). After Parker’s death in 2010 the series was taken over by Michael Brandman. He wrote 3 more books. In 2014 the estate changed the author to Coleman. I wonder why? (by the way, Wikipedia and Parkers’s website were big helps.)
Reed Farrel Coleman is not Robert B Parker and Jesse Stone is not quite the same when RFC writes the story. I still like the character and will continue reading the series. I’d have liked more of Suit and Molly – they add a nice depth to Jesse’s work life. And less drinking for Jesse. Alcohol is starting to become a character in the book.
