Skink-No Surrender by Carl Hiaasen

This was a fun adventure book. Richard’s cousin Malley has taken off with a stranger and no one is sure how willing a traveler she is. When the police don’t make any progress he decides to find her on his own. He enlists the help of a curious drifter-slash- ecowarrior and the madcap plot twists begin.

I like how Hiassen always gets ecology lessons into each of his books. His careful setting development makes me want to take a trip to the Everglades. I thought the kidnapping storyline was a bit undeveloped, but I recognize that keeping this a little vague extends the age for readers down a bit.
