Designated Daughters by Margaret Maron

I have enjoyed all of the books in this series, and I definitely recommend that you read them in order.   (Start with The Bootlegger’s Daughter)
Three things to like about the series:
1. The setting is richly described and is in many ways a character in the stories.
2. Deborah’s huge family is explained and developed a little more in each book. The family tree helps.
3. The mysteries are unusual and complicated.
