I read this book soon after its debut in 1986. This is the cover I remember:
I think I read it for a Women’s Literature class during my undergrad. It was made into a movie in 1990. I didn’t see and I don’t think I ever will. The book has stayed with me all these years and I cannot imagine seeing it on screen, it just won’t match what’s in my head.
It came to mind today when I saw an article about it on Book Riot. I am not surprised that the book was challenged. As soon as I read the article title I predicted exactly which scene caused the challenge. I’m impressed by Josh Corman’s defense of the book. If you have read the book be sure to check out this article. If you haven’t read it, what are you waiting for?
